Since I am on in the Dominican Republic anyway, I thought I should give this tournament a try. It is a $1270 buy-in with $300k guaranteed. Several $150 satellites available, and I won my ticket in one of them.
Yesterday I played the day 1 A of the main event. 120 players and we played down until there were only 24 left. I went up from 20k chips to 65k pretty fast, got a little reckless and down to 49k. Then, I tried to bluff out Nacho Barbero - I raised him from the button preflop with JTs, he called from the Big Blind. Ace high flop and an up and down straight draw for me. Turn is another Ace, I bet, he calls. River is a blank, I jam, and he calls me with KK. Lost half my stack in this one.
After that, no cards for a long time, I am down to 20k with 1200-2400 blinds and only one player to eliminate. I get 99 UTG, go all-in and the button who has about 37k calls with A7, I double up. Next hand, the same player moves in for his remaining 17k after a raise from middle position, I am looking at KK on the BB, call and win that hand against his 33. That was the last hand of day 1 a, and I will go into day 2 with app. 69k chips. Average is 100k, and day 2 will see around 80 players competing for a total of estimated $500k.
