Nevada will remain poker-only for now

The new online gaming industry in Nevada is poker-only and it seems that the Nevada Gaming Commission is not even considering adding other games, at least for now. There are no plans to offer anything else than online poker, according to A.G. Burnett, the chairman of the Gaming Control Board, and Nevada will continue its efforts regarding internet poker.

The current regulations available in Nevada allow licensed operators to launch within the state and accept players which are physically located in the state. Nevada was the first state to show interest in legalizing online gambling after the Department of Justice changed its stance on the Wire Act in 2011 and gave individual states the option to offer their own laws regarding online gambling.

Poker-only bills were supposed to be seen better by the regulators and thus make it easier to pass them in order to add other games to the list later down the road. Despite the big delays in Nevada, the state became the first to legalize online poker and launched the first real money site under the new regulatory system about half a year ago. There are now two online poker rooms available in the state and more are scheduled to launch in the upcoming months.

New Jersey and Delaware coming with online casinos

While Nevada might have won the race, the lack of gaming options and the small player pool in the state give it a pretty big disadvantage compared to New Jersey – which plans on launching its real money online gambling industry by the end of November. Unlike Nevada, New Jersey’s regulations allow for all games of chance now found in a land-based casino in Atlantic City to be offered on the internet.

Combined with the much larger population of the state, it is expected that the Garden State will not just reach Nevada in the race for online gambling, but quickly leave it in the dust. The increased competition from other states is not yet something to worry about in the online gambling world. New Jersey only allows residents of the state to access the internet options and intrastate compacts can allow the two gambling states to share player liquidity.

Delaware is also in the mix with its own online casino offering and the sites should go live to the players in the state this week. Since Nevada and New Jersey share some of the major casino operators, agreements can lead to a deal as soon as next year. This may not be enough time for Nevada to move further than online poker according to the recent statements made by Burnett, but players in the Silver State can look forward to accessing the sites in New Jersey.

Taking a careful approach to online gaming might not be such a bad idea in Nevada. Most of the operators have little to no experience in the field and it takes time to make sure everything goes well. So it may be a good idea for US poker players to choose an experienced provider like Americas Cardroom. They are based offshore and open to US residents and they do have plenty of experience and a good reputation in this industry. Plus, you have the advantage of playing against players from all over the World!
