There is a lot happening in the poker industry with numerous players getting the chance to shine as the cards fly through the air. Some of them have already made a name for themselves and can be found playing in the biggest tournaments around the world or on the high-stakes virtual tables on the internet.

Viktor “Isildur1” Blom wins $1 million in one day

Viktor BlomViktor Blom is one of the members of Full Tilt’s The Professionals team which got dominated by three PokerStars representatives on Sunday in a battleship-style heads-up challenge. As Blom lost three tables to Bertrand Grospellier and $50,000 in the process, he then went to the Full Tilt Poker high stakes tables to cool down.

Here is where he faced some of the best online players on the internet and won more than $1 million in roughly 10 hours. He started a bit rough and lost $163,000 in just 308 hands while playing 2-7 triple draw for $1,500/$3,000. He then took a break and came back with new strength at the same tables and won $98,979 from a user named “Enterprise” in just 184 hands. During this time, he was also at a $2,000/$4,000 Omaha table where he won another $200,000 making his total profits for the day thus far around $136,000. However, he didn’t stop here and continued to play $400/$800 pot-limit Omaha where he met one of his regular opponents, Ben “Bttech86” Tollerene.

The match on Sunday was a joy to follow with both players making some impressive moves to claim huge pots. As the day went on, Blom got ahead after a big rush which made him the winner with $724,808 more in his account. In the last 30 minutes of play, three huge pots were made that all went to Blom. The biggest one was worth around $300,000 after Blom went all-in, but Tollerene folded.

A few hours later, Blom came back to the 2-7 triple draw and Omaha hi/lo tables and played for 2 more hours; he won $123,000 in this period. With this amazing run and more than one million dollars added to his name, Viktor Blom is now the biggest winner of the year at $3,364,017, closely followed by Alex “PostflopAction” Kostritsyn. Tollerene is still in the top five despite his bad loss on Sunday with $1,779,843 earned this year.

Dan Shak is at the top of the GPI POY standings

Moving away from the computers and towards the live poker tournaments, Dan Shak remains at the top of the Global Poker Index Player of the Year list. This is the second week in a row that he holds this spot. His most recent points came from the WPT L.A. Poker Classic Main Event where he made it into the money and finished 49th; this got him four spots in the rankings from his previous position two weeks ago.

Shak certainly had an amazing year thus far with four cash-ins and three final tables to earn more than $900,000 in just three months. Paul Volpe just finished third in the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event and it might just be the boost he needs to jump from position 20 to No. 1 next week.
