After more than a year from the beginning of the actual construction, it seems that everything is right on point and things are going smooth with the Baha Mar project. It is expected for the core resort to be done by the end of 2003 and be fully operational by the end of 2014, most likely in December. A project that will stand out on the Bahamas skyline with an expected height of 20 stories: a superstructure for the whole world to admire.
It is also important to note that the project involves 40,000 Bahamians over the period of its construction and has a contract worth $400 million for local workers. More than a quarter of this amount has already been paid and the project remains true to the public commitment it underwent before starting construction. Robert Sands, the Cable Beach resort developer’s senior vice-president for public affairs, declared that “everything is still on target” with a big chunk of the project already coming to shape since the core construction started, in November 2011.
When asked about the target of the main constructor, China State Construction, has for July 1, 2012, to make the casino hotel complete to 100 feet above ground level, Mr. Sands responded confidently that the milestone can be reached but that “there are a great number of things that kick-in as a result of that”. It is expected for the casino hotel to be as high as 20 stories by the year-end and locals will get to see how it rises to become the superstructure everyone expects it to be.
To go with the local commitment of hiring Bahamian workers for its construction, the Baha Mar project will also employ 7,000 full-time Bahamians once everything is completed and it opens its doors in December 2014. While online casinos are quickly growing as far as visitors go and money involved, there still are differences that make land-based casinos preferable to some players.
Obviously, there is a huge amount of money involved in making luxury hotels and casinos which attract rich customers and make for a big income but things seem to go in favor of online gambling for the last couple of years. As far as location goes, the hotel will be placed between the Wyndham property and the Nassau Beach Hotel. The pool area will be between the hotel and Rosewood property. With construction heavily on the way, the buildings will go up right in front of the many locals and at the hands of the many Bahamian contractors hired to take part in this super project. The $2,5bn price tag makes it demand respect and everyone is anxious to see the final masterpiece.
